Font Menu Tip
To switch on the fly between the WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) Font Menu and the Standard Font Menu, hold down Option while selecting the Font Menu.
Fixed Date Tip
To insert a date within an AppleWorks word processing document that will not update, hold down the Option key and Select the new menu item Edit > Insert Fixed Date.
Tools Tip
While in an AppleWorks word processing document, hit Command + Shift + T to quickly display the Tools in the document window.
Selection Tip
To select an entire paragraph of text in an AppleWorks document, quadruple click on the paragraph.
Font Increment Tip
To increase the font size of selected text by 1 point increments, hit Command + Shift + >. To decrease the font size of selected text by 1 point increments, hit Command + Shift + <.
Rearrange Button Bar Tip
To rearrange buttons in the button bar, hold down Command + Option and drag the button(s) to a new location.
Hide Button Bar Tip
To quickly hide the Button Bar in AppleWorks 5, hit Command + Shift + X. After hiding, to show the Button Bar, hit Command + Shift + X again.
Button Bar Selection Tip
To select from the installed base of button bars, click and hold on the black "down" arrow button in the upper left corner of the current button bar and select from the available choices.
Button Bar Space Tip
Running out of space in the button bar? To add additional rows to the current bar: Click and hold on the black down arrow button in the upper left corner of the current bar and select Button Bar Setup. Enter a larger number in the Rows box to increase the available space.
Database Date Tip
To change the formatting for dates, select menu item: Edit > Preferences. Select Text in the pulldown and select your preferred style in the Date Format box.
Fixed Time Tip
To insert the time within an AppleWorks word processing document that will not update, hold down the Option key and select the new menu item Edit > Insert Fixed Time.
Password Tip
To set a password for a word processing document, select menu item: File > Document Summary and hit the "Set Password" button.
Save As Tip
Unlike many other word processing programs, the AppleWorks word processing module has a keyboard shortcut for Save As. Hit Command + Shift + S to execute a Save As command for an existing document.
Word Processing Module Selection Tip
To both "jump" one word and select the word based on the cursor position, hit Option + Shift + the Right Arrow to jump and select to the right. Hit Option + Shift + the Left Arrow to jump and select to the left.
AppleWorks Library Tip
Use a new AppleWorks Library (menu item: File > Library > New) as a convenient place to store needed items such as URLs, logos and scanned signatures.
Selection Tip
To both jump to the end of a word processing document from the current cursor position and select all text, hit Shift + Command + the Down Arrow. To do the same to the beginning of the document, hit Shift + Command + the Up Arrow.
Spreadsheet Tip
To quickly lock a cell to preserve data, highlight the cell and hit Command + H. To unlock, hit Command + Shift + H.
Included Scripts Tip
To see the included scripts in AppleWorks 5, select menu item: Scripts (the menu with the document icon next to the Window menu) > Open Scripts Folder.
Spreadsheet View Tip
To switch to page view in a spreadsheet document, hit Command + Shift + P. Hit Command + Shift + P again to disable page view.
Rulers Hide Tip
While in an AppleWorks word processing document, hit Command + Shift + U to quickly hide the Rulers in the document window.
Thesaurus Tip
To quickly access the thesaurus, hit Command + Shift + Z.
Print Dialog Bypass Tip
To bypass the print dialogue box and print one copy of a document, hold down Option while selecting the File menu. A new item called Print One Copy will be revealed. Select it to bypass the print dialogue box and print one copy of your document.
Open Document Dialog Tip
To bypass the New Document dialog when opening AppleWorks, hold down the Command key while launching. AppleWorks will now launch with the Open Document dialog.
Navigation/Selection Shortcut Tip
To both move the cursor down a paragraph and select the text, hit Shift + Option + the Down Arrow. To both move the cursor up a paragraph and select the text, hit Shift + Option + the Up Arrow.
Keyboard Shortcut Tip
While in a dialogue box (for instance, the Document or Rulers dialoge box), press and hold Command to display available keyboard shortcuts.
Invisible Characters Tip
To see invisible characters such as tabs and spaces, hit Command + Semi-colon.
